Today it is difficult to combine luxury and good taste in one room. Such a combination becomes possible when organizing an interior in the English style. At the same time, luxury in this style solution is always restrained; this property has made it popular in most countries of the world. And one of the best solutions for your home will be an English-style bathtub.
If you have an idea to decorate your bathroom in this style, follow the basic English principle - everything is good in moderation. The British are conservative. Therefore, they continue to honor the age-old traditions of their country, which are that the bathroom is a place of relaxation, as well as luxury for body and soul.
In this room, the predominance of everyday things in bright and flashy colors is unacceptable. Expensive sophistication and nobility of a classic interior should reign in the bathroom.
Use natural materials for decoration and decoration
The British love high-quality, durable things, so they choose natural wood, stone, and metal in the interior. These are not always affordable materials, but high-quality styling is also suitable - as long as it is not plastic, synthetics, or linoleum. Here are very beautiful tiles that look like marble, like brick, like wood. But the classic of the genre is wood cladding.

Modern furniture style in Bali (Indonesia) and interior design
Modern interiors on the island of Bali are those interiors that we see on the covers of fashionable interior magazines, as they are designed by designers and architects from Europe. Especially in the area in which I am lucky enough to live. This is the Seminyak area.
There are distinctive features of interiors in the Balinese modern style, which I noted:
Bright (sometimes even “acid”) accents in the interior
A modern interior with natural wood, white or concrete walls and bright accents is Balinese. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Scandinavian style, but it is still something else. There can be a bright pink chair next to the yellow door and it all fits together harmoniously and clearly.
Textiles and ornament
This is what really gives me the WOW effect personally - the ornaments on the pillows. Favorite colors are blue, orange, green, beige, pink. These are the colors of the island's environment - sky, sun, greenery and vegetation, sand, sunset, dawn.
Favorite geometric patterns are waves and stylized island vegetation.
Furniture
The best Balinese furniture is furniture made from solid wood (teak). Teak is a very picturesque wood. Furniture made from it is very pleasant to the eye and to the touch. This material itself serves as a decorative element of the interior.
Another amazing Balinese thing is wicker furniture and interior items. As always, in the spirit of Bali, everything is very bright and colorful. Such furniture will be a very cool accent, without cluttering up the space. Or it can be used in landscape design. All this beauty costs very little money - about 3000-4000 rubles.
Tabletops and decor made of suar wood
This tree reaches enormous sizes, so tabletops made of solid suar are a monolithic cut of a huge tree. These tabletops reach such dimensions that it is difficult to imagine the size of the tree from which this piece was cut. These countertops can be found everywhere, both in expensive hotels and luxury restaurants, and in cheap local cafes.
They also sell cuttings of teak and suar roots, which, after processing, turn into an art object. In Russia, such a thing would cost a colossal amount of money. Here, it seems, this is not the most expensive pleasure.
Stone
Stone is a natural material, of which there is a lot on the island. Most often I came across granite of several shades, less often beige marble, and the most commonly used one was volcanic stone of black-graphite color.
This stone is used everywhere, both in traditional and modern interiors. It makes interesting bathtubs and sinks. This is another feature in Bali that is quite inexpensive. For example, a stone sink in a hardware store on the Highway costs 670 thousand rupees, about 2,600 rubles (the price of a hardware supermarket).
Lamps
Lamps by designer Tom Dixon are very popular in interiors. Moreover, they make them themselves by hand from copper. It looks special and costs very little money. There are also interesting light models from European designers who live and work in Bali. As I understand it, everything can be copied. I will cover this point in more detail in the second part of the article.
I liked the “eco-series” models. That's what I nicknamed them =)
These are table lamps with teak roots, bamboo, or volcanic stone at the base, and a simple white lampshade on top. This item is sold almost everywhere.
Handmade ceramic tiles
Hand-painted tiles can be found on the streets of the island. It is sold by craftsmen on the road, as are tabletops, lamps and sculptures. There are very interesting tile models with bright patterns.
Decor - paintings and figurines
There are a lot of artists in Bali, whose paintings can be bought from $30. What impressed me most was the bright posters and signs. The posters are reminiscent of Soviet ones in style, only with local motifs in the images - with what they do in Bali - rice harvesting, ceremonies, surfing. Such paintings can be a cool accent in the interior.
Signs with inscriptions, decorative small surfs - all this can be bought inexpensively here.
As for furniture and decor, there are things of different quality and price. Closer to tourist places, naturally it costs more and more, but in terms of quality I can say it’s at the European level. What is sold in the center of the island, say in Ubud, can be found at very low prices, but I do not recommend buying furniture there, because the build quality, of course, suffers. It is very important to understand and check how dry the wood is and how it is processed, since not everything that is sold on the streets of the island is suitable for the Russian climate. Differences in humidity can cause teak to crack and come apart.
The Balinese are very talented people. They have golden hands because they follow their ancient traditions and are forced to pass on their skills from generation to generation. Therefore, you can find the most unusual decor from the locals. From there, European masters of design and architecture are already designing modern interiors, using the talents of local residents and the beauty of the island's surroundings. I think this is how this “modern Balinese style” appeared in the interiors of the island.

While writing this article, I learned even more new things. Therefore, in the next article I will reveal many new designer things on the island. Bali.

If you're on a budget, just paint the walls.
Wallpaper and wood panels look great, but sometimes financial constraints force us to look for other solutions. You can buy ordinary moldings, create a primitive geometric composition (several “windows”, for example) and paint the walls. You can do without decor - emerald, wine, gray, blue interiors will look great anyway.

Decorating a modern English bathroom
A modern Victorian style bathroom is designed using only the basic principles, without following strict conservative rules. You can add just a few traditional elements to the design . The materials are selected simple, and the decoration is minimal:
- Wall decoration can be limited to tiles at the bottom and wallpaper or paint at the top. Wallpaper must be selected that can withstand steam and moisture well, but is completely safe for health. Canvases with vegetation, flowers, and pastoral scenes evoke associations with England of the Victorian era.
- You can only use tiles, but then they should be laid out in 2 levels, separated by a border. A panel on the theme of old England would look great on the wall.
- Floor tiles can be large in size, their layout should be classic with any ornament. Dark burgundy tiles stylized as an English check will give the room a special chic.
- A completely wooden door will look heavy in a modern bathroom, so you can decorate it with stained glass or painted glass. But wooden frames in dark shades are a must.
- The bathtub should only have legs. It is advisable to purchase decorative models that imitate the paws of an animal. They must be made in bronze or gold.
- The fittings should be aged artificially, giving it a patina. She will look impressive. A mirror in a massive frame above the dressing table is an expressive accent of style.
- A Victorian room should be dominated by wood, so adding plastic furniture is not recommended. You can restore an ordinary wooden chair.
- A separate section in the room is the toilet. But it must be located in an area of good visibility and quick access.
For a modern Victorian-style bathroom, you should choose wallpaper that is waterproof and washable.
Visual horizontal division of walls in the bathroom with a border is a favorite technique for decorating walls in the Victorian style.
Beautiful stained glass windows on the windows create and complement the old Victorian atmosphere.
Part of the wall can be finished with glossy brick tiles
As you have already noticed, the English style offers a variety of solutions for walls, although in general all the options look like episodes of one British TV series. Continuing the theme of decorating surfaces in the bathroom, half the wall (or at least the whole) can be tiled with “hog” or brick tiles. Traditional colors: dark green, white, blue.

Plumbing equipment
A distinctive feature of such a room is the installation of two cast-iron bathtubs: oval and with a slightly inclined back, having asymmetrical sides. The legs should be slightly curved. Sometimes they are sewn up on the sides with wooden decorative screens, but they cannot be moved towards the wall, they must only stand separately.
An oval asymmetrical clawfoot bathtub will fit perfectly into a Victorian interior.
If you really like painted plumbing fixtures, then they would be appropriate in an English room. During the reign of Queen Victoria, Asian-Oriental motifs were at the peak of popularity. The toilet should be the simplest model with a hanging cistern. But most often it is mounted on a high pipe, which is not very convenient.
You can often find paintings in the form of floral or oriental patterns on bathroom fixtures in a Victorian style.
A Victorian-style bathroom has its own constant attributes. These are massive pedestal sinks made of marble or porcelain, shining with a mother-of-pearl sheen. You can clearly see what a Victorian-style bathroom looks like in the website photo.
Victorian-style bathroom fixtures have flowing and graceful shapes
Complete the interior with pots of flowers
Pots or vases of flowers traditionally decorate bathroom shelves and window sills in England. The fact is that most English bathrooms have a window - arched or rectangular. But in our layouts, natural lighting is usually not provided for in such rooms. Therefore, fresh flowers are unlikely to survive here, but you can change the bouquets more often. This gives comfort and style to the interior.

Minimalism in details - more space, remove all unnecessary
In the same way, we strive to get rid of unnecessary details so as not to distract us from the most important thing - the surrounding nature and emphasizing natural materials. This is how interiors work in Bali. Modern interiors focus on the nature outside the window, natural materials from Bali, or decorative elements inspired by the island.
When decorating your apartment, it is best to carefully select the details and get rid of everything unnecessary. All attention in the interior should be on natural materials in the decoration and carefully selected decorative elements.
