How to easily make and hang a curtain in the bathroom with your own hands

Despite the fact that baths are considered a relic of the Soviet era, the vast majority of residents of the Russian Federation continue to use them. On the one hand, the bathtub takes up an excessively large amount of space in the combined bathroom. On the other hand, a bath allows you to relax after a busy day at work. Until now, for most potential users, a bathtub cannot be a substitute for a shower cabin and vice versa. Let us remind you that new options for bathtubs have appeared on the market. We are talking about the material quaril. With its help you can create a bath of absolutely any configuration.

To prevent the use of a bathtub in a small room from leading to additional problems, it is strongly recommended to use a curtain. But a curtain made of PVC material turns the room into some kind of parody. If the bathroom has a design, it is highly recommended to use a different approach to protect the room from water splashes. A glass curtain for the bathroom is the best option for combining practicality and design aesthetics.

Features of sliding curtains

Sliding curtains for the bathroom are among the most popular models. They are easy to use and attractive in appearance, divide the room into functional parts and allow you to compactly organize the bathroom space. A popular method is to install sliding doors between the bathtub and washbasin if only one tap is used.

Sliding curtains for the bathroom have two main design options. In the first case, the roller mechanism is located only in the lower part of the product, and in the second - in the upper part. The choice of mechanism depends on personal preference. It is easy to care for glass curtains, since dirt can be removed using any glass cleaning product.

Glass doors in the bathroom interior are always moisture resistant.

Sliding design

A similar curtain for the bathroom turns the bathtub into a sealed box - it replaces the shower stall. In this case, the panels are attached to three walls, the curtains themselves are selected based on the size and type of bathtub. Today, several types of designs are produced for different types of bathtubs: rectangular screen, corner, prefabricated structure, curved. Structurally, there are one-section, two-section, three-section and multi-section screens.

Installation is carried out on the lower and upper guides. The upper part is fixed on profiles that are fixed to the side walls, the lower part is installed on the frame of the bathtub itself.

Sliding, movable panels are attached to the upper profile and move via rollers. There may not be any rollers on the bottom panel.

Before making such a screen yourself, you need to determine what it will be like. The easiest way is to make a curtain consisting of two or three rectangular panels.

Drawing of a three-section curtain

Making a curtain includes the following steps:

1. To produce a sliding curtain, you will need to accurately measure the dimensions of the profiles and sashes. Then the panel itself is prepared - it is cut out of plastic, and the profile is also cut out to the required dimensions.

2. Then the mounting locations of the supporting vertical profile are marked on the wall, holes are drilled and the part is secured with self-tapping screws. The lower guide is installed on the sealant to the side of the bathtub bowl.

3. Then a plastic panel is installed in the profile - it should easily move to the side. That’s it, the DIY bathroom curtain is ready. It can be decorated with stickers, rhinestones or painted in a bright color.

DIY installation

It is quite easy to install glass curtains for the bathroom yourself, but you must follow the rules:

  • Before installation, the structure must be assembled, since it consists of several sections. Each section consists of a plastic or metal profile and a glass sheet. It is easy to assemble with your own hands using the instructions that come with the kit. Glass doors are hung only after the system is completely assembled;
  • Next, you need to mark the points on the walls where the profiles for the curtains will be fixed. It is not recommended to do installation without preliminary marking and taking into account the location of furniture and plumbing fixtures in the bathroom;
  • According to the markings, you need to make holes in which to secure the profiles and the roller system. It is important not to leave gaps around the fasteners, otherwise water will get into them, and this will lead to damage to the material and the entire system in the bathroom;
  • If the curtains frame the shower stall, you also need to think about tightness. It is advisable to use silicone as protection. It will dry for about two hours, after which water will no longer be a threat;
  • To complete the installation work, sliding glass doors must be installed in the bathroom or shower room.

If there is a pattern on the surface of the sections, you need to ensure that all parts are located in the right direction and form a single composition in the interior. You should handle glass elements more carefully than plastic ones, since the likelihood of breaking even strong glass is higher than damaging the plastic.

Features of installation of frame glass partitions

In this section we will look at how to install a bathroom curtain that has an aluminum frame consisting of two vertical supports attached to the wall. As a rule, the kit includes two more stands that act as guides. The lower rack rests against the surface of the side of the bathtub, and the upper one rests against a vertical rack, which is attached to the wall.

And then follow the instructions:

  • All profile elements must be collected and measurements taken. The glass itself is inserted later.
  • As soon as it is clear that work can begin, a vertical line must be drawn on the walls. You need to make marks on it where the fastenings will be located, taking into account the dimensions of the structure itself.

Important! You can make the notches with a center punch, and then drill the holes using a drill.

  • Now holes are formed for installing construction dowels using a chisel and hammer.
  • Dowels are inserted into the holes using a screwdriver and hammer.
  • The fasteners are placed above the finished area and secured to the wall with screws using an electric drill.
  • Then you need to check the strength and slope of the structure.

Important! Please note that the bottom of the door must touch either the frame frame or the side of the bathtub.

  • To make the seams between the curtain and the wall more airtight, you need to put a layer of silicone in them.
  • Next, the glass is inserted into the frame fragments and secured using screws that are included in the kit.

Advantages and disadvantages

Although bathroom curtains are also made from plastic, textiles and other modern materials, glass sliding structures are more popular. The main advantages of glass products are:

  • Durability. The glass of shower cabins and bathroom screens must be protected in the form of shockproof film. Thanks to this, it can last longer;
  • Easy care. Unlike other materials, glass is easy to clean from dirt and stains. It is resistant to household chemicals and does not fade;
  • A wide range of. Manufacturers offer many models of sliding curtains and stationary screens for showers and bathtubs. There can be a pattern on the glass, and it is also possible to design the surface yourself;
  • Reliability. Curtains are used to protect the bathroom from water and instead of partitions for zoning;
  • Quick installation. It’s easy to secure the system on your own, as there are no complicated parts in the design.

Sliding curtains have few disadvantages. The main disadvantages are the appearance of stains on the glass surface and limescale deposits from water. Mold may also appear if the mechanism is poorly secured. Additionally, quality shower or bath doors are expensive.

Glass for bathrooms is very popular among apartment owners because it can decorate the interior better than any other material. Here you can use not only transparent fabrics, but also matte or mirrored products. They can be plain or colored. With skillfully organized lighting, the reflections of colored glass will create a light, relaxed atmosphere in the room. They will emphasize the cleanliness of the room, which is pleasant to be in.

Tips for choosing

When choosing a glass fence for a bathroom, it is advisable to consider the following:

  • Installing a hydromassage panel on a bathroom wall requires that the surrounding area be protected from jets of water. In this case, glass curtains will serve as reliable protection, because they are not afraid of strong water pressure.
  • When creating a glass fence around the perimeter of the bath, it is necessary to ensure air circulation, leaving a gap between the curtains and the ceiling. Glass sheets should reach a level at which they completely protect the room from splashes.
  • When purchasing sliding partitions, it is important to pay attention to the reliability of the roller mechanism.
  • When choosing swing partitions, you should take into account the free space that will be available after their installation. If the room is a bit cramped, you should consider the option of sliding curtains.
  • Particular care should be taken when choosing a mount for folding curtains so that it can withstand the weight of the structure and not fail during operation.
  • It is important to take into account the location of the electrical cable and pipes in the walls to which the fence will be attached. The configuration of the frame and attachment points will depend on it.

What is glass used for in the bathroom?

Bathtub glass can safely be called a universal material, with the help of which various designs can be created. For example:

  • doors and partitions that look equally harmonious in both small and spacious rooms. Owners of large bathrooms often prefer to buy glass for the bathroom in order to install sliding structures that divide the room into zones. In country houses and cottages, doors made of textured glass can separate the bathroom from a cozy bedroom, which is not only beautiful, but also convenient;
  • glass furniture will look ideal in a small room, since bathroom glass can visually expand and balance the interior. A transparent countertop or cabinet with glass doors perfectly compensates for a small area. That is why not only owners of expensive mansions, but also owners of small city apartments want to buy glass for a bathtub;
  • Shower cabins can not only have glass doors, but be made entirely of glass.
    You can design such a design yourself, based on personal aesthetic preferences. In this case, it is better to make glass for the bathroom to order, taking into account any little details, so that you do not have to deviate from the ideal embodiment of the author's imagination. If you just need to install the sheets in the shower doors, then you can buy them ready-made;
  • folding glass curtains that prevent water from splashing around the room are especially relevant in a small bathroom where the space does not allow for a separate shower stall.

Installation of fencing without frame

This type of fencing is made of glass sheet 6-8 mm thick, the corners of which are rounded, which makes it safe.

Such curtains are used when it is necessary to protect the shower area from splashes. Using an aluminum profile, the curtain is attached to the surface of the wall and part of the bathtub.

In fences with opening shutters, fastening is carried out using hinges that allow the curtain to be rotated 180°.

How to install glass curtains for the bathroom yourself

To construct such structures, safety glass is used in combination with high-quality fittings. The curtains have a modern design and are very easy to use.

The price of glass for a bathtub will depend on the type of product, which can be matte, colored, with a full pattern on the surface, etc. At the same time, it is not recommended to use photo printing, which, although it is considered moisture resistant, may not withstand constant exposure in such a room over time.

You can’t buy bathroom glass, the quality of which will be confirmed by certificates, in every store. offers only high quality products at affordable prices. In addition, we have special transport at our disposal for the safe delivery of fragile material throughout Moscow and the region.

Price

On the market you can buy glass curtains for the bathroom of foreign and domestic production. A Russian-made swing system will cost customers no more than ten thousand rubles on average; glass curtains from Italian factories have a higher cost; the price of the system can be up to fifty thousand rubles.

If you are thinking about purchasing glass curtains for your bathroom, all you have to do is choose the type of system and manufacturer. Manufacturers of these designs offer curtains with different types of glass; it can be frosted, transparent or patterned. All these features do not affect the quality of the glass and the design; they are designed to look organically in the interior.

Bathroom wall cladding with acrylic glass

This modern installation system for wall cladding with acrylic glass is called Renovetro. Its undeniable advantages over traditional methods of repair and finishing are manufacturability, ease and speed of installation, and the absence of noisy and dirty work.

In our example, instead of an old tiled bathtub, a functional shower cabin is equipped and stylishly decorated in the spirit of modern design. Its back and side walls, finished with tinted acrylic glass, give the interior a completely different look than the previous dilapidated and long-out of fashion tiles.

The system includes sheets of acrylic glass in six color options (white, black, grey, brown, green, red), measuring 100 x 244 cm and 4 mm thick, decorative aluminum profiles 250 cm long with a discreet design in silver or chrome and additional accessories (installation kit): acrylic glue, double-sided adhesive tape, adjusting wedges.

How to choose glass curtains for a bath?

Depending on the specific conditions, external (rectangular or rounded section), internal or external corner, as well as connecting profiles are selected. The sheets of acrylic glass inserted into them are attached tightly and securely.

Attractive in appearance, the acrylic cladding, thanks to its mirror-tinted surface, creates the effect of depth and spatial expansion of the room, at the same time it is resistant to stains and can be easily cleaned with a soft cloth, warm water and a few drops of ordinary detergent.

The use of acrylic cladding of one or several colors in the bathroom allows you to create expressive interior accents - for example, decorate the section of the wall above the washbasin or the wall behind the toilet. This will help not only to decorate the corresponding area, but also to increase the hygiene of its use due to the smooth surface of acrylic glass, which is less prone to the accumulation of dirt and microbes than a tiled covering. Acrylic glass can be easily processed with conventional tools designed for working with wood: they can easily saw, drill and sand this material.

1. The surface of the wall is leveled as much as possible, and the corner joint along its entire length is sealed with sealing tape. 2. Accurately measure the location of the reinforcement and other elements that must pass through the holes in the lining. 3. Then transfer the markings for drilling holes to the back side of the corresponding cladding sheet. 4. Holes in acrylic glass can be cut with a fine-toothed hole saw designed for woodworking.

5. It is convenient to cut the sheet using a hand-held electric saw with a fine-toothed disk and a guide bar. 6. After drilling and sawing, small burrs remain on the edges; they are removed with fine-grained sandpaper. 7. Double-sided adhesive tape is attached to the back of the acrylic sheet along its perimeter, as well as around all holes. 8. In addition, silicone glue is applied around the holes, as well as in a zigzag pattern and evenly throughout the entire sheet.

9. The sheet is inserted into the corner profile, leveled with wedges and pressed firmly against the wall, fixing the adhesive joint. 10. The next sheet is joined to it using a connecting profile, and an outer profile is placed on the outer edge of the sheet. 11. A special profile for internal corners connects and insulates the joint of two perpendicular cladding sheets. 12. To seal joints, use an acid-free sealant, for example silicone for natural stone.

Nowadays, in any living space there is a room for amenities, that is, a bathroom. The bathroom in the house is a specific room that is very different from other rooms. This room must have special equipment, that is, plumbing. Plumbing is an important element of the bathroom, the choice of which must be taken very seriously.

Caring for glass curtains

To care for glass fencing you can use:

  • Soft napkins and sponges;
  • Glass and mirror cleaning products.

Do not use products that can damage the glass surface and aluminum elements:

  • Alkaline cleaners;
  • Abrasives;
  • Strong (aggressive) cleaning agents.

To avoid the formation of stains on the glass from detergents and water, you need to periodically treat the surface with an anti-stain agent, you can use a car anti-rain product.

The metal elements of the frame must be wiped dry with a soft cloth after each use, this will help avoid the formation of rust.

Choosing a bath

At first glance, choosing a Burlington bathtub for your bathroom is not difficult. But, in fact, when you are faced with this question, the task does not seem easy. In order to choose a good burlington bathtub, you need to know what types of bathtubs exist and what advantages and disadvantages these bathtubs have.

Types of baths: • Cast iron bath; • Iron bath; • Acrylic bathtub.

A cast iron bathtub is a very durable bathtub. These types of baths were installed back in the last century. Now, of course, cast iron bathtubs are very different from their predecessors. Modern, cast iron bathtubs are very well made. These bathtubs are very comfortable and look very beautiful, thereby enhancing the design of the bathroom. Such bathtubs are very durable and have a long service life. In general, cast iron is a very good and durable material that does not rust or crack.

An iron bath is also a good option. Baths of this type have a very big price advantage. Such baths are the cheapest, but this does not mean that they are bad. Such bathtubs are cheap for the reason that they have poor sound insulation. Thus, when water is drawn into the bath, a very loud and sharp sound is made. For this reason alone, such bathtubs are cheaper than bathtubs made of cast iron or acrylic.

Acrylic bathtubs are considered very durable and reliable. Acrylic bathtubs look great and have a very long service life. Such baths are inexpensive, but at the same time very high quality and comfortable. You can choose an acrylic bathtub in any style and to suit any interior. By the way, the new versions also have glass bath curtains.

What factors should you consider when choosing glass curtains?

So, what you need to take into account when choosing the ideal partition for the bathroom:

  1. If you are thinking about installing a panel with hydromassage functions, then it is better to choose glass curtains, because they are quite durable, reliable and easy to maintain.
  2. If you intend to simply close the bathtub around the perimeter, then you need to pay maximum attention to determining the optimal height of the partitions. It is important that they do not reach the ceiling so that air can circulate freely.
  3. If you are looking for the most practical option, then take a closer look at sliding models.
  4. The most spacious passage is provided by swing curtains, but they can only be purchased if there is sufficient free space so that they can be opened and closed freely.
  5. When choosing a partition, keep in mind that they can be frameless, combined or with an aluminum frame.
  6. Commercially available curtains may have different textures, and the color of the aluminum profile may also vary. That is, you can choose the shades and structure of the glass to suit your taste, matching the design of the bathroom.
  7. It is also important before purchasing to decide how you will mount the structure - using a frame or on the side of the bathtub.

Glass curtains for the bathroom: do-it-yourself installation

Such curtains are included in some models. If the kit does not include curtains, in this case you can order such curtains separately.

Having glass bathroom curtains is very convenient. Such curtains protect the rest of the bathroom space from excess moisture. This way you will never have water on the floor or walls. So there will be no dampness or excess moisture in the bathroom, and all this thanks to the curtains.

Glass curtains for the bathroom: types, advantages and disadvantages, choice and self-installation

Agree, it’s good to have a large and spacious bathroom that can simultaneously accommodate a shower, a bathtub, and all the other plumbing fixtures a person needs. Unfortunately, such a bath remains a dream for many families, and they have to be content with only the bare necessities. But there is a way out, and it lies in combining several plumbing fixtures in one product - it’s enough to simply complete the bathtub, turning it into a full-fledged shower stall. This will be discussed in this article, in which, together with the website vannaja.net, we will talk about glass curtains for the bathroom, with the help of which such a combination is possible - you will learn about the varieties of this device, the advantages of its use and self-installation.

What should a good curtain be like?

For all types of bathtubs, curtains are a must-have accessory, otherwise the floor and walls in the room will constantly be wet.

A curtain covering a bathtub, in addition to its main benefit, also decorates the room and places color or stylistic accents in the interior.

Curtains in the bathroom help to preserve the renovation for a long time, protect the bathtub from fungus and mold, and make the room cozy and beautiful. In order for a product to cope with its purpose, you need to choose it wisely.

Classic curtains

Classic models are very similar to window curtains - a curtain made of a special material is attached with rings to a flat or tubular cornice.

But there are also some differences from ordinary curtains: such a cornice is attached to the spacer between two parallel walls, and only material that has been previously impregnated with a special waterproofing substance can be used as a curtain.

Classic curtains can be created with your own hands without much difficulty.

Flexible curtains for the bathroom are made from the following materials:

  • polyethylene;
  • linen or cotton with impregnation;
  • vinyl;
  • polyester.

The cornice can have a straight or curved shape, depending on the configuration of the bathtub. A tubular cornice-spacer is suitable for a straight bathtub.

If the bathtub bowl is curved, then the supporting structure is the ceiling profile, which can be of any shape. However, such products have both advantages and disadvantages.

The most important advantages are:

  1. Low cost. Such curtains do not need to be cleaned of dirt, but simply replaced with new ones if necessary.
  2. Quick interior update. By changing the curtains, you can transform your bathroom in a matter of minutes.

Like any inexpensive accessory, cheap canvases have their drawbacks:

  1. Short service life. Even if you take good care of the product, it will not last longer than a couple of years.
  2. Rapid contamination. Inexpensive materials become covered with rust stains, deposits of mineral salts, and colonies of mold fungi appear on them. At the same time, when washing or cleaning, there is a possibility that the product will lose its presentable appearance.

Classic curtains are sold in supermarkets, construction markets and specialized boutiques of bath products. In addition to ready-made curtains, hand-made materials are also sold there.

Sliding curtains

The sliding structure is installed on the edges of the bathtub. Its main advantage is that it takes up very little space. And the main disadvantage is the visual reduction of space. Sliding curtains are perfect for a spacious bathroom.

Also interesting: Art Deco bathroom – a luxurious design solution

There are 2 most popular types of sliding curtains:

  • glass;
  • plastic.

In terms of functionality and aesthetics, the models do not have significant differences; the difference lies in the price and care features.

Glass structures are easier to care for, but they cost a little more than plastic ones.

It is possible to assemble such a structure with your own hands, but it will take a lot of time and effort.

Folding curtains

Folding structures, also called accordions, are removed with one hand.

The accordion is almost invisible in bathrooms of any size. However, if there is a sink near the bathtub, then folding the accordion completely will not work or will be difficult.

Folding curtains consist of fabric sheets of the same size, stretched over narrow frames. The movement of the structure occurs due to the hinge system, so when choosing, you need to pay attention to the strength and quality of the joints.

Doing such a thing with your own hands is very troublesome and time-consuming, and you will also need the skill of sewing and constructing from metal or PVC profiles.

Hinged and corner curtains

Judging by the reviews, the swing design is the most inconvenient. To open such a curtain, you need to have a lot of free space. But for shower cabins without a tray, a swing curtain will be the best option.

If the bathtub bowl is adjacent to the junction of two walls, then the optimal solution would be to install a corner curtain.

Thanks to the waterproof fabric, you can better protect the room from moisture. To cover the corners that remain open, a convenient door is installed. With its help you can organize a completely enclosed space.

Acrylic sheets are usually used to make corner curtains. You can make such a thing with your own hands, but you will need engineering thinking and accurate calculations of materials and fasteners.

Glass curtains for the bathroom: advantages and disadvantages

Many people know that bathroom curtains can be made not only of glass - they are made of fabric, polyethylene and plastic. But it is glass curtains that make it possible to turn a bathtub into a more or less full-fledged shower stall. because they have the set of qualities that put these products in first place.

  1. Durability due to the very material of these curtains. In most cases, glass curtains for the bathroom are covered with a special protective film, the purpose of which is to protect the glass from accidental impacts from heavy objects. In addition, the design of the curtains itself is designed with long-term use in mind.
  2. Easy to use and maintain. Glass is quite easy to clean, does not react with modern household chemicals and is practically not damaged - for example, plastic. in contrast, it scratches quite easily and becomes dull over time when exposed to high temperatures.
  3. Large selection of different designs. Modern manufacturers of such products have developed a lot of different designs of glass curtains or, as they are also called, shower screens. You can purchase sliding systems, swing systems, and even folding systems in various variations. A little later we will study all these designs in more detail and help you make your choice.
  4. Reliable protection against splashing water. By installing glass curtains on the bathtub, you can be sure of the reliability of protecting the rest of the room from splashing water during water procedures. By installing such systems, you turn your bathtub into almost a full-fledged sealed shower cabin.
  5. A relatively simple installation that can be handled by almost any person who can more or less confidently hold a modern construction tool in their hands. Later, while studying the types of glass curtains for the bathroom, we will talk about how this happens.

Glass curtain for the bathroom photo

Having understood the advantages of these bathroom fixtures, it would not be amiss to pay a little attention to their disadvantages - in principle, there are few of them, but it is necessary to become familiar with them. We can highlight just a couple: firstly, it is the ability of glass to accumulate lime deposits on its surface, which appear in the form of inconspicuous streaks after water droplets dry. And secondly, this is the cost - glass bath curtains are the most expensive among all similar products. As you understand, these shortcomings do not in any way affect the performance of the curtains as a whole, and they can only be called shortcomings only conditionally.

Options for making bath curtains

There are a lot of different ways to sew a curtain - from the simplest to the most decorative and original. Let's look at a few of them that do not require special skill and experience in sewing.

curtains for bathroom

Simple rectangular curtain

Classic rectangular fabric curtain

Decide whether the curtain will have folds, then accurately calculate the width and length of the curtain

To work, you will need a large piece of fabric, a sewing machine, sharp scissors, a measuring tape and threads that match the color of the fabric.

Step 1. Measure the width of the bathroom and the distance from the mounting level at the top to the floor.

Step 2. Cut out the canvas: the width should correspond to the width of the bath + 20 cm for gathers, the length is calculated so that the bottom of the curtain does not reach the floor by 3-5 cm, taking into account 6-7 cm for hems.

Marking is the first stage in the formation of a future curtain

Step 3. The side sections are machined to prevent fraying of the threads, and then folded 1 cm to the wrong side of the fabric and stitched. Do the same with the bottom edge.

Step 4. After processing, the upper cut is folded by 5-6 cm and stitched with one or two lines. This is necessary so that the fabric is not damaged by the clips on the rings of the curtain rod.

Sew up the side seams

Seam on the front side

At this point, the sewing is considered complete, the curtain can be mounted above the bathtub. This option looks good on semicircular bars and is great for free-standing bathtubs. If the width of the fabric is less than the width of the curtain, make two fabrics using the method described above.

Curtain with frills

This is a simple option for decorating a purchased rectangular curtain. You will need a piece of waterproof fabric with a bright pattern, a pencil, thread, a sharp utility knife, a sewing machine, and pins.

Ruffled curtain for the bathroom

Step 1. Place the purchased curtain on a flat surface with the back side down. Using a pencil under the ruler, draw horizontal lines at an equal distance from each other, for example, 15 cm.

Apply markings to the curtain

Step 2. The fabric is cut into strips. The width of the stripes is equal to the width of the curtain + 10 cm, the length is the distance between the marking lines + 5 cm. The number of fabric strips must correspond to the number of lines.

Cut strips of appropriate size from waterproof fabric

Finish the edges of fabric pieces

Step 3. Take the first strip, apply it inside out to the front side of the curtain along the marking line and secure with pins. All other segments are baited in the same way.

Now the strips of fabric should be attached to the curtain according to the markings

Step 4. Use a machine to sew all the lines, sewing the frills to the base.

Sew the frills to the curtain from the front side

Sew strips of fabric one by one

Instead of fabric, you can use soft oilcloth, but such a curtain will last much less than a fabric one. A curtain with stripes of different colors but the same pattern looks impressive.

Ready curtain

Large curtain with flounces

Curtains with flounces

This option is more labor-intensive, although there are no particular difficulties in the sewing process. The work will require more time and patience, but the result is truly impressive. Curtains with flounces look luxurious and unusual; they become the main accent of the interior.

Step 1. First, make a template from paper (you can take regular newspaper). To do this, draw a large circle, in the center of which a round cutout is made. The length of this cutout around the circumference should correspond to the width of the curtain, but if necessary, you can sew one flounce from several parts.

Sample

When unfolded, the paper template looks like this

Step 2. The template is cut out, laid out on the fabric and traced with chalk or pencil. You can simply press it down with something heavy or attach it with pins. To save time, it is advisable to fold the fabric into quarters.

Lay out the template on the fabric

Step 3. Carefully cut out the material, trying not to move the layers. This is how the required number of elements for the curtains are cut out. Now all the cuts are processed using a machine so that the fabric does not fray.

Now, according to the template, you need to cut out the fabric flounces

Step 4. Take a waterproof fabric for the base, cut out a rectangle along the width of the bathtub and the appropriate length, fold and stitch the edges.

Step 5. The first flounce is applied to the lower edge of the base on the front side, secured with pins so that it does not move, and sewn. The next flounce is attached so that its lower edge covers the previous element by 2-3 cm, and so on until the very top of the curtain.

This is what the shuttlecocks will look like

The fabric for the flounces should be chosen as light as possible, otherwise the curtain will turn out to be too heavy and inconvenient to use.

Using an overlocker, we process all open sections of the flounces with a rolled seam

We arrange rows of flounces on the curtain

Romantic style curtain

Here the basis is the same simple rectangular curtain, and the only difference is in the method of decoration. Everything is done very simply, but manufacturing and attaching a large number of small elements takes a lot of time.

Fluttering curtain

Step 1. Cut out the curtain fabric, fold and stitch the edges.

Hemmed corner

Step 2. Small neat circles are cut out of the same material - approximately 5 cm in diameter. The number of circles depends on the mounting pattern, but the more there are, the better.

Circles

Step 3. Each circle is folded in half, then in half again and sewn around the corner to the base. You need to sew along one horizontal line, at a distance of approximately 40-50 cm from the top edge of the curtain.

Lay out the circles

Lay out and sew each element

Each subsequent row is sewn on top of the previous one, trying to place the circles as densely as possible. In total, about 10-12 rows are made to form a wide, lush stripe of petals.

In addition to the stripe, you can make single petals from circles, arranging them in any order. There are many options here, it all depends on your imagination.

Marking for loops

Machined holes for buttons to hang curtains

Hinges and eyelets

Not everyone likes fastening with clips on rings; moreover, they cannot withstand heavy curtains. There are many other options, the most popular of which are loops and special holes - eyelets. You can attach them to the fabric yourself.

Curtains with eyelets

Tape and loops

Eyelets

To make loops, you will need a piece of the same fabric from which the curtain is made, and thick braid with a width of 5 cm. For loops, the material is cut into 20x12 cm rectangles, folded in half lengthwise and sewn on a machine along the outer edge. Next, the blanks are turned out and the ends are manually hemmed - the loops are ready.

To calculate the total amount of fabric, multiply the length of the curtain piece by the number of panels, not forgetting the seam allowances

Marking the future position of the eyelets

Accurately mark the center of each eyelet with a dot.

Example of markings on fabric

Cut holes with scissors

Now sew a braid from the inside out along the top edge of the curtain, straighten the fabric on the table and lay out the loops to determine the optimal distance between them. After this, attach both edges of the loops from the wrong side to the braid. These are blind loops, but can be made with buttons or Velcro.

To make eyelets, you will need to buy special rings and eyelet tape. Apply a ribbon from the inside to the top edge of the curtain, iron it with an iron, fold the edge inward and iron it again. The tape ends up inside the material. Then the tape is sewn on both sides using a machine.

Place the bottom ring on the bottom where the back of the curtain will be

Installation of eyelets

Place the decorative half of the eyelet and snap it into place

Lay out the stitched edge on the table, take the rings, open them and apply the lower part to the canvas. There must be a pair of rings. Having laid out the rings at equal distances from each other along the strip, mark the cutout locations with a pencil or chalk. Carefully cut out round holes, place half of the ring underneath, straighten the fabric, put the other half on top and press. The remaining rings are attached in the same way.

Bath curtain

If there are no problems with the choice of textile curtains for the bathroom, then there are very few options for the bath. Manufacturers offer a huge range of plastic screens, but, firstly, they are more expensive than fabric curtains, and secondly, they are not always convenient. Many people touch it with their feet while cleaning the bathtub, chips and scratches quickly appear on the surface, and access to communications becomes difficult.

Bath curtain

Making a curtain for a bathtub is very simple, and you will need few materials. The main thing is to choose the right fabric in color so that it fits harmoniously into the interior. In addition to fabric, you will need a special Velcro fastener, a glue gun, a sewing machine and thread with a needle.

Step 1. Take measurements of the bathtub and cut the canvas so that the width of the curtain is 20-40 cm greater than the length of the bathtub, and the lower edge does not reach the floor by a couple of centimeters.

Step 2 . The top edge of the material should be overlaid by machine, the bottom and sides should be folded 1 cm and stitched.

Step 3. The fabric is laid out on a flat surface with the right side facing up and even folds are formed, securing them with pins. After assembling the folds, the width of the canvas should be equal to the length of the bathtub.

Step 4. The Velcro is separated, and the soft part (with loops) is manually basted to the curtain along the top edge. The Velcro should be located on the front side. Next they sew it with a machine.

Step 5. The hard part of the Velcro (with hooks) is glued using a gun to the inside of the side. Now all that remains is to attach the canvas to the Velcro and press.

To remove the curtain for washing, you need to carefully pull the edge, holding the Velcro on the side. Do not pull sharply, otherwise the Velcro will come off. This method of fastening is the simplest and most convenient, although not entirely reliable.

Types of glass bath curtains and their features

A detailed study of all existing varieties of these products will give you the opportunity to understand the question of how to choose a glass curtain? The fact is that differences in their design entail some operational features.

  • Sliding glass curtains for the bathroom. Perhaps this is the most successful option of all existing ones - it fully corresponds to the operating conditions in both small bathrooms and large spacious rooms. Due to their design, the doors of such systems do not occupy useful space in any position. The nuances of choosing such shower curtains include only the sliding mechanism - it can be of two types. One of them uses a roller system, while in the other the door moves in a groove, which causes some inconvenience during operation. It is better to choose curtains whose doors are equipped with two pairs of rollers (top and bottom).

  • Folding glass curtains. This option is no less successful than the previous one - its advantages include the fact that, if necessary, this glass curtain for the bathroom can be completely folded. Its accordion-shaped design allows you to compactly fold the curtain near the wall - if necessary, it can be easily installed in place, one might say, with one movement of the hand. In addition, this model is versatile - not only can it be installed on almost any type of bathtub. so it’s also quite easy to do.
  • Swing curtains for the bath. This is an option exclusively for spacious rooms - the doors of this curtain open, like ordinary interior doors, which, as you know, take up significant space. In any case, the design is not very successful, and even owners of spacious bathrooms are in no hurry to install it.
  • Glass curtains for corner bath. Modern corner baths can differ in different configurations, which makes it very difficult to resolve the issue of choosing bath curtains for them. There are only two options here - you can purchase a curtain model specially designed for your bathtub, or use such a universal device as the accordion curtain, which we wrote about above.

Sliding curtains for the bath

True, the question arises with its standard straight guide - you can bend it yourself, but it is quite difficult.

In addition, when studying the types of glass bath curtains, it should be noted that they can be made using frame and frameless technology - in this way curtains of any design can be produced. The main feature of the frameless technology for manufacturing these devices is the smaller number of places in which dirt can settle. In addition, such curtains look much more impressive and more stylish.

The principle of installing glass bath curtains with your own hands

Regardless of the design features, almost all glass bath curtains are installed in the same way - differences can only be observed in the number of places for its attachment. For example, a full-fledged stationary screen is attached to two opposite walls, and a folding curtain is attached to only one. But, nevertheless, despite these features, their installation must be carried out taking into account certain rules, and the whole process can be divided into several stages.

  • Assembly. Glass itself is not very convenient to use and therefore, in most cases, products made from it are delivered disassembled - each part of the glass bath curtain is packaged separately, and before installation they have to be combined into one solid product. There should not be any particular difficulties here, since all manufacturers supply an assembly drawing along with the product. Of course, some nuances may arise, but in general everything is quite simple. The only thing you don’t need to do is install the door itself right away - it’s better to leave it for later, when the entire structure is installed.
  • Marking of fastenings. Here you will have to install the screen in place and use a pencil or marker to mark where to drill the hole. In principle, you can get by with a tape measure with a level, which is much better in terms of safety.
  • Next, we drill the holes and proceed to the actual installation. Immediately along the line of the installed fasteners we apply silicone to the wall and the bathtub itself. You need to take care of the tightness at this stage, since later you will not be able to seal the bath screen well. Well, then we simply install and fix the product using the supplied fasteners and leave the curtain alone for a couple of hours for the silicone to dry.
  • After this time, all you have to do is install the door and enjoy the work done.
  • How to install a curtain on a bathtub with your own hands

    In conclusion, I would also like to note that all glass curtains for the bathroom can be divided according to the type of glass used. They can be completely transparent, tinted and matte - their surfaces are roughened or a pattern is applied using sandblasting. It’s up to you to choose here – the type of glass does not affect the technical and operational characteristics in any way. This is purely an appearance that can only affect the interior of the room.

    Why is a curtain better than a screen?

    Why should you choose bath curtains instead of a screen?

    • Firstly, by installing a glass screen, you lose the possibility of free access to the space under the bathroom.
    • Secondly, ease of installation if the bathtub is of non-standard size. When decorating the interior, it is very difficult to choose a screen in this case.
    • Thirdly, ease of installation and the possibility of making curtains yourself. A DIY bath curtain is a great opportunity to give free rein to your creative abilities. Moreover, a thing made with your own hands is doubly pleasant to use.
    • Fourthly, saving money. A plastic curtain made by yourself is several times cheaper than a finished screen.
