You should start from the middle and work towards the edges in circular rows, changing the color of the thread in each row. Each side of the square should be tied with 1 to 3 double crochets. The number of columns depends on the mesh, as well as the thickness of the thread.

Knitting begins with a set of 4 air loops connected into a ring with one connecting stitch. Next, follow the pattern from Figure 1 at the top of the picture, repeating the pattern 6 times.

Surely many of us have a huge amount of plastic bags accumulated at home, which we then throw away in whole bags. Now they can be given a new life - beautiful and useful. From these packages we can knit a bathroom rug. In addition to its attractive appearance, it is soft, pleasant, practical and easy to care for. This product is moisture resistant. Thanks to the loose knitting, the moisture accumulated underneath quickly evaporates. Cleaning it is very simple - just apply detergent, rinse with a stream of shower and leave to dry on the edge of the bath. The mat is lightweight, does not slip on the floor and is quite wear-resistant.
What do we need to prepare to knit this wonderful product? Plastic bags with a hook No. 3.5-4, as well as scissors or a stationery knife.
The bags need to be cut into strips of 3.5 - 4 cm. It is worth paying attention to the fact that the stronger the bag, the easier it is to cut such narrow strips from it. If you follow the diagram below, the rug will turn out to be openwork, and if you need a tighter knitting, then you should do all the double crochets.
We will knit the motifs first, and then combine them into a single product.
We start with the core of the flower. We make 1 large air loop and then continue, as shown in the diagram.
If the motifs do not match in size due to different thicknesses of the packages, the motif must be tied in a circle with a half-crochet or single crochet.

The procedure for making a track is quite simple:
- preliminary stage - the desired shape and material of suitable quality are selected. The type of product (knitted, stitched, braided), the knitting pattern are determined;
- the main part - the canvas is made;
- The final step is to shape the back of the rug.
To make sure that the material is chosen correctly and to calculate its required amount, it is advisable to knit a small sample that can also be washed - for the “purity of the experiment.”

To work you should prepare:
- 180 m of Barocco Decore grass yarn, with 65% cotton and 35% polyester;
- 1 skein of yellow and 1 skein of coffee-colored Barocco cotton yarn, 1 skein of black Apolo Eco (85% cotton) with hook number 4.
We will knit each part of the owl separately, as the diagram shows, and then connect all the parts.
Let's start with the body. We cast on 18 air loops + 3 lifting loops. We continue knitting according to pattern 1, in which the red color is grass yarn, and the black color is brown melange.
Let's move on to the eyes and head. We cast on a chain of 6 chain stitches, close it into a ring and knit each eye separately, as diagram 2 shows. Then we tie the eyes together and continue knitting the head according to the same pattern.
Beak. Take a black thread and cast on 4 chain stitches. Then we knit 7 double crochets into the 4th loop from the hook, after which we continue knitting according to pattern 3.
All that remains is to tie the legs and connect all the elements. To do this, we attach a thread to the body of the owl, knit as the diagram shows with 4 single crochets and convex stitches with 2 crochets, which need to be knitted deep into the body for 2 rows.
Straighten the knitting and place it on the bathroom floor.
Options for rugs made from different materials with patterns
If you have little knitting experience, it is better to start with simple square or rectangular patterns. If you take fluffy bulky yarn, small errors will be invisible.
A circle is a more complex shape, because you need to correctly calculate the increments to make it even. Animal-shaped rugs are an option for advanced knitters. You can take a ready-made diagram and make your own product based on it.
Fluffy rug made of bright yarn
This accessory is knitted in 2 stages: first you need to prepare the fillet mesh, and then add the main pattern to it.
Master Class:
- Cast on a chain of air loops (v.p.) to the size of the carpet. Next, knit 1 double crochet (dc) and 2 ch. to the end of the row. Repeat until the network reaches the desired size.
- Edge each cell according to the pattern of 3 or 4 dc. If the thread is thick, you can do 2 dc.
- Start from the middle. Change the color of the yarn during the process.

Square or rectangular
The simplest option is a square, which is knitted with a single fabric. You can not use any patterns, but make single crochets (sc). First you need to make a sample measuring 10x10 cm, wash it and count the number of loops. Based on this, the finished product is calculated.
You can make a multi-colored rug using the same method. Every 2 rows you need to change the shade of the yarn, tying the ends with a knot, and at the end of the work, tuck them inside with a needle or hook. The edges can be decorated with fringe.
The idea of alternating colors diagonally looks interesting. To do this, you need to change the thread every 5-10 stitches. In the next row, the colored line should be offset. Both bright shades and smooth ombre transitions look good.
Openwork product
Another option is to assemble a rectangle from squares or circles. It is based on the same columns with or without a crochet. All parts are sewn together with a needle. This track can be made from leftover yarn.
The model is suitable for both beginners and experienced craftswomen. It can be complicated by using different patterns; a carpet of motifs can also be made using the “granny square” technique.

If you don't throw away old T-shirts and other knitwear, you can put them to use. All rags need to be cut into strips 2-3 cm wide and tied into 1 long thread. It is impossible to make a complex openwork product from such yarn, but it is possible to knit a simple round rug.
Stages of work:
- Close 12 air loops in a circle.
- In the second row, perform 24 dc.
- Next alternate 1 dc. and 1 v.p.
- In each next circle, knit 2 dc. from v.p.
- Repeat step 4 until the product is the desired size.
- At the end, tuck in all the “tails” and wash the carpet.

You can find different types of cords at a hardware or hardware store. They will make a strong and durable product. It is best to buy a cotton clothesline: it does not slip and is easy to knit from. Twine and jute are also suitable, but a product made from them will be tough.

This carpet is suitable for the bathroom and toilet, because it is not afraid of water, and the textured surface will provide a daily foot massage. You can lay it in a private house in the hallway, because it can be easily cleaned of soil and dirt.

Sophisticated Japanese technology
These rugs look complicated to make, but if you look at them, they consist of circles that are connected in a special way. A simple model consists of 4 circles, the empty space in them is filled with double crochets.
First you need to knit 1 part, then cast on a chain of air loops for the second part. But before you close it, you need to put the first circle on it. Knitting continues in the round.
The third and fourth parts are attached in the same way. At the end, you can sew them additionally with a needle. Empty sectors need to be filled with rows of columns of a contrasting or the same color.

To decorate the center of the rug, knit a flower according to the pattern and sew it to the product.

As in one of the previous options, knitting consists of creating individual motifs, which are then combined. Therefore, even leftover yarn will do.

To work, you need to prepare 100 g of white “Lily” cotton yarn, 100 g of the same yarn, but green, as well as hook No. 4.
Please note that when knitting the thread must be folded in half.
We cast on 42 chain stitches and knit 7 double crochets in green in the first row, then 7 double crochets in white and so on, alternating colors every 7 stitches. You should get 6 stripes. We start the second row with white. We make 6 double crochets, then change the color and knit 7 double crochets. We finish row 1 with a white double crochet. Next we knit according to the pattern.
After the 22nd row, we tie the square around the perimeter with green double crochets. Before cutting the thread, we cast on 12 air loops.
Now we perform the binding in white. Fasten the thread in the adjacent corner from the additional chain and knit 12 chain loops + 3 lifting loops.
We move on to tying with green thread. Under each arc of 2 air loops we knit 6 double crochets. In the second row we make 6 double crochets with a common top, and between them – 7 chain stitches. Third row - under each arc we knit 3 double crochets, 2 picots from 3 chain loops, 3 double crochets. Above the bunch of 6 stitches, make 2 double crochets with a common top.

Conventionally, the bathroom is divided into zones: dry (in a separate toilet, near the toilet in a connected room, near a hanger or cabinet) and wet (near the shower, next to the washbasin). At the preparation stage, you should determine exactly which zone the track is intended for.
For places of high humidity you need to select mats:
- light in weight, since regular care of things is required, and heavy items are difficult to wash/rinse by hand and dangerous to load into a washing machine; easy to care for - quick-drying and non-staining;
- knitted from artificial or synthetic threads, plastic bags that are not subject to rotting or rapid deterioration in conditions of high humidity;
- a significant plus - rugs made from paper bags “stick” to the tile when wet and do not slip; not absorbing or allowing water to pass through, since standing on a wet, squelching surface is unpleasant even for a short time.
Flooring can be placed in a dry area:
- dense structure, having a continuous surface;

What can you crochet a rug from?
Crocheting a rug is the most affordable way to quickly acquire a quality item. Not being wearable clothing, a floor mat can be made from anything - old stockings or tights, strips of synthetic fabrics, various types of ropes and cords. Polyester and polypropylene cords are knitted products in themselves, but they make quality rugs.
We especially note the moisture-resistant bath mat. The material for its manufacture can be a bright plastic clothesline. You just need an openwork pattern so that the knitting process does not cause difficulties.
Rugs for chairs and stools should be made from threads or strips of fabric that are not harmful to human skin and have low rigidity. Leftover yarn of different colors is an excellent raw material.
You can also crochet a mat for home exercise or yoga, but then it is better to make it from soft threads, and also in the form of a mattress cover, inside which foam rubber or other foam material is inserted.

The rug can be made in several colors. If there is not enough material for a larger rug, you can use other elastic things. For example, T-shirts, turtlenecks and other thin knitwear items.
