Decent material imitation

If you want the design of your room to look chic, but the cost of marble is stopping you, then there is a worthy replacement for it - artificial stone, the basis of which is marble chips. The composition also contains acrylic resins, various hardeners, and coloring pigments. Such stone is assembled into slabs and then covered with colored or transparent gelcoat. It is this that gives depth to the pattern and provides protection from water.

Furniture and plumbing fixtures made of artificial stone can have a wide variety of shapes. This is achieved through the use of casting technology. In addition, tonal diversity increases, which only benefits the design of the room. Marble chips in the composition of cast marble give it quite high strength, but still in terms of performance characteristics it is inferior to rock.

Therefore, the floor should not be designed using it, since it is not able to withstand high abrasive influences.

The unsurpassed beauty of the bathroom interior will allow you to enjoy the process of taking hygiene procedures for many years. It will take some effort to maintain the original attractive appearance of the material. But the labor expended is definitely worth it.

Features of marble design

Since ancient times, marble has been considered the best material for decorating solid objects. It adorned the floors and walls of imperial palaces, royal chambers, and the houses of noble nobles. Modern fashion welcomes luxury, which has provided marble with a new surge in popularity.

The use of this material guarantees the interior full compliance with fashion trends. Marble:

  • is a natural material;
  • has a unique, non-repeating pattern;
  • brings grandeur and chic to the design.

Regardless of the application of this material, it will provide the interior with aristocracy and respectability. It is enough to look at photos of marble bathroom designs to understand that such a room will be a worthy decoration of a modern home.

Marble in the bathroom interior

Marble provides the interior with presentability and elegance. You can look at photos of marble bathrooms to make sure of its high aesthetic values. And yet, it should not be used without measure. If the walls, floor and furniture are decorated with this material, the bathroom may turn out to be too cold and uncomfortable. You need to consider all the options for using marble in the interior, choose 1-2 techniques to add sophistication and grandeur.

Looks good in the bathroom:

  • facing walls or ceilings with marble tiles;
  • accents in the form of mosaics, panels, stone screens;
  • countertops, shelves made of marble.

Marble accent wall

The choice depends on personal ideas about a comfortable bathroom and financial capabilities. The area and layout of the room are also taken into account. It should be noted that it is better to entrust the laying of marble tiles to a qualified specialist. Working with this material requires skills and experience. There is a risk of damaging expensive tiles, laying them poorly, and creating a lot of waste.

Advantages and disadvantages of stone tiles

Marble in the bathroom is distinguished by its aesthetics, which is why this solution is becoming increasingly popular. But this material also has disadvantages, including a fairly high cost and the need for careful regular maintenance. Difficult room conditions require constant maintenance of cleanliness to preserve the beauty of the cladding and ensure proper hygiene.

Small pores that allow air to circulate effectively help maintain a healthy microclimate in the bathroom. The stone is not afraid of humidity and high temperatures, so it is suitable for use in the bathroom. The color palette contains a large number of shades that can be successfully combined with each other and create original ornaments and panels.

The high price of marble is a relative disadvantage. The investment will pay for itself with a long service life and incredible interior beauty. There are other disadvantages of this material.

Strong mechanical stress can damage marble, although it is highly durable. Do not allow heavy objects to fall onto tiles and stone countertops, otherwise they may become chipped and cracked. Caring for the material must also be very careful. To protect marble, special sealants should be used. Aggressive detergents and cleaners should be avoided, and stains can be washed off with soap. Coloring substances should not be allowed to remain on the surface of the stone for a long time so that they do not have time to penetrate the pores.

What texture, what size

For a small bathroom you should purchase glossy, light marble tiles: the tandem of this material with lighting will create an attractive interior, bright at any time of the day.

For those who are annoyed by gloss, a semi-gloss finish is offered. In this case, the floor should be laid with rough tiles to match the walls. The anti-slip surface of marble tiles will help you move around the room without fear of slipping. For a large family, porcelain tiles are better suited, as they impress with their increased durability.

The size and shape of the tiles should be selected depending on the size of the room

The size range of marble tiles allows you to choose the appropriate material parameters. In small rooms, decoration with small and medium-sized elements looks advantageous. Large tiles, on the contrary, will turn the bathroom into a smaller one.

It is more difficult to care for small tiles, but the room will only benefit from such finishing. If the marble tiles are of a light shade, then dust, dried drops of water, and stains from cleaning agents and detergents will be almost invisible on it. In case of mechanical damage to walls or floors in light marble, it is allowed to veil scratches and chips with colorless varnish. A material that matches the basic tone (glue, grout) is also suitable.

Advantages of artificial marble

The popularity of the stone is significantly limited by its high cost, so more and more buyers are paying attention to artificial analogues. If it is not possible to purchase natural tiles or countertops, you can consider the option of a budget replacement material. The advantages of such products:

  • affordable price;
  • excellent aesthetic qualities;
  • no need for complex care;
  • long service life.

Combination of materials
Combination of materials

Artificial stone can be used to decorate any surface; this is a fairly convenient and practical solution.

Types and colors of marble

Marble for bathroom decoration is available in several varieties.

Natural

This type of marble is an expensive material, but its performance characteristics are at the maximum level. It has no equal in beauty and strength. Often, natural marble is passed off as artificial, so you need to buy the material from a trusted place and ask for documents that will confirm its origin.

Artificial

This option is becoming increasingly popular, due to its affordable cost and excellent characteristics, in which it is practically not inferior to natural material.

Artificial marble tiles can be created from various materials.

  • Polymer concrete is created from acrylic resins and marble chips, to which quartz and other rocks can be added. To give the desired shape, the mixture is placed in appropriate trays. Not only tiles are made from polymer concrete, but also countertops, washbasins and other products.
  • Touchstone marble consists of a gypsum mass that is created in different shades. To use, the mass must be diluted with an adhesive composition and applied to the surface in the same way as plaster. After hardening, a monolithic surface without seams or joints is obtained.
  • Flexible marble is a bendable plastic slab, onto the surface of which epoxy resins with marble chips are applied.

A characteristic feature of marble finishing is the variety of colors. This is worth dwelling on in more detail.

  1. White finishing stone is rightfully considered the most luxurious. This can be explained by the pure structure, which contains a minimum number of foreign impurities. White marble can have different shades, each of which is interesting. Adding gray makes the stone noble and cold. Cream and beige shades look gentle and light.
  2. The gray stone stands out for its original design, which is characterized by a picturesque structure. Cool shades of gray bring personality and subtle sophistication to the room. Gray marble goes well with white stone and wood-look tiles.
  3. Colored marble finishing material is available in various natural shades. Colored marble tiles are usually of very high quality. To combine with such an original finish, onyx, malachite and other materials are usually chosen. There are many options for creating individual projects.
  4. Dark marble is usually used to create a strong contrast. The bathroom in black marble also looks original. The dark color looks good on the floor, under the sink or on one of the walls.

Designers advise paying attention to chocolate shades, which bring coziness and homely warmth to the room.

Also, marble, which is used for bathrooms, differs in its texture.

  • The glossy surface has a reflective effect. Due to this feature, you can visually make the room more spacious. Glossy tiles are slippery, so it is not advisable to use them for floor finishing.
  • Non-slip tiles are excellent as flooring. It is also actively used for finishing shower cabins and swimming pools. Even in conditions of high humidity, such tiles will not create a sliding effect.

  • The standard type of facing material undergoes double-sided grinding. Its shine is at an average level.

  • Non-standard marble tiles have found application in the field of pattern creation. This material comes in different shapes and sizes.

  • The porcelain-based option has a ceramic base, which is covered with marble on top. The cost of this material is much more affordable compared to natural material, but the durability indicators are also at a lower level.

Marble tile texture for the bathroom

According to the texture, marble tiles can be of three types:

  • matte;
  • glossy;
  • semi-gloss.

Each of these types has advantages. Glossy reflects light and makes the room more elegant. And matte, on the contrary, absorbs it, due to which the interior becomes more elegant and intimate.

Matte

The big advantage of matte tiles is that they do not require frequent cleaning. It absorbs light, due to which splashes, stains, wool, and dust particles are not visible on it. Small scratches remain unnoticeable on the matte surface, so it is better to lay this kind of tile on the floor. This coating is ideal for the bathroom because even if water gets in, it does not slip.

Manufacturers offer tiles with varying degrees of porosity. If there are too many small holes on the surface, it is difficult to clean. Over time, dirt may become embedded in such tiles, and they will develop a grayish tint.

Glossy

These tiles are recommended for small bathrooms. Due to the fact that light is reflected from the glazed surface, the space visually expands. With glossy tiles, the interior seems brighter and “juicier”. Glossy marbled tiles in black and green colors look impressive.

This material also has disadvantages: the surface is highly slippery, and small scratches and chips are very noticeable on it. This tile is easy to clean, but it needs to be done often, because any dirt on it is clearly visible.

Semi-gloss

If both of the previous options do not suit you, buy semi-gloss tiles for the bathroom. It is slightly shiny, but has a rough surface. This tile does not get dirty as quickly as glossy tiles, but it also does not require frequent washing. It is suitable for both walls and floors of any style interior.

What interior elements can be made of marble?

It is not necessary to finish the bathtub with stone from floor to ceiling. Sometimes just a few details are enough for the natural elegance of the stone to add sophistication to the room. As practice shows, products made of marble and marbled are always appropriate and look great.

In addition to tiles, various pieces of furniture, decorative items and structural elements can be made from marble

Marble countertop for bathroom

It is made from both natural and artificial stone. Combines beauty and practicality. Countertops made of artificial marble are lighter than natural ones, most of them are made using seamless technology, and therefore are not afraid of mold and mildew.

Marble countertops are practical and luxurious

A marble countertop will be an excellent complement to ceramic tiles of various textures and colors.

Other bathroom elements

The combination of noble stone and solid wood gives the interior sophistication. Open shelves and closed cabinets are made from valuable species. When using different types of materials in the interior, a single-color scheme is selected.

Contrasting details set off the cold stone and add sophistication to the interior. Successfully combined shades of marble and white elements create a warm and refreshing atmosphere.

The shape and size of the tiles are selected taking into account the size of the room. Marble makes the room presentable and stylish. You can verify the high aesthetic qualities by looking at photos of the implemented design developments.

Marble countertops look sophisticated and luxurious. Stone elements are distinguished by texture, a wide palette of shades and are made in any configuration. Natural stone is combined with glass and metal, so these materials can be safely combined in designs.

Marble in floor finishing

The most popular design technique is laying marble tiles on the floor. The result is an ideal background that will qualitatively highlight all the advantages of furniture and plumbing equipment. Floor coverings set the tone for the entire interior.

Marble floor tiles for the bathroom:

  • gives the atmosphere elegance and presentability;
  • visually increases the area of the room;
  • can be used in classic and modern styles.

Light marble visually increases the area of the bathroom

The assortment includes marble of different types. It has significant differences in cost. If the bathroom is small, you should not purchase expensive material for the floor. It has a large design. It is impossible to capture all the beauty of a unique pattern in a small room.

Since marble has a certain fragility and difficulty in maintenance, it is advisable to combine it in floor finishing with more durable materials. The stone goes well with tiles and porcelain stoneware. They can be used for areas that receive the maximum load. For example, you can use marble tiles to frame the edging, and lay out ceramic material in the center.

Marble walls

When decorating a marble bathroom, keep in mind that the shade of the walls will set the main background of the room. Therefore, it is necessary to think through the design of furniture and plumbing fixtures in advance in order to emphasize their advantages. Light walls will harmoniously expand a small space, and dark colors will add solidity to the interior and enhance the shine of metal objects.

Modern design of a combined bathroom

Before laying tiles, you need to prepare the surface. It should be perfectly smooth and clean. The main stages of preparatory work include cleaning, leveling and priming. Almost any place is suitable for fixing tiles. It is important to consider that marble has significant weight, so some surfaces require hardening. For example, drywall must be reinforced with a special reinforcing mesh.

How to combine with other materials?

When thinking about the interior of a marble bathroom, you cannot ignore the issue of combining stone with other materials.

  • Wood goes well with marble finishes, plumbing fixtures and furniture. Both materials are noble, but they do not compete, but complement each other. Wood can be present in the form of shelves, cabinets and other furniture. An interesting solution is to use massive wooden frames.

You can choose marble and wood in the same shade or think about a combination. Wood finishing brings home comfort and warmth to the interior, which successfully complements the cold stone.

The floor can be finished with wood, which will also look beautiful with marble walls.

  • The combination of marble and metal allows you to create a stylish, laconic interior. Strict lines and cold shine fascinate and delight the eye.
  • Glass also goes well with precious stone. However, glass needs to be carefully looked after, especially if it is in the bathroom. Therefore, this combination is not in high demand.

Room color scheme

The shade and texture of marble determine the functional purpose and quality characteristics of the material. White tiles with gray, pink, and brown splashes are used for interior decoration. Decorative elements can be installed independently or with other materials.

Gray marble is characterized by the presence of dark veins. The texture of the stone is rough and porous, and impurities give it a dark color. The tiles look great either alone or in various combinations. Gray marble is used to cover the walls and floors, combining it with snow-white plumbing fixtures, furniture, and decorative accessories.

Black tiles have white or gold veining. Natural stone is colored by the bitumen and graphite it contains. A valuable color resource is used for creating interiors, laying on the floor and decorating walls, work surfaces, and furniture.

Room color scheme

The color of natural stone is determined by the amount of impurities that impart high performance, durability, and the ability to be used in decoration. The green color is given by compounds of iron silicates, the beige color is given by limonite.

Pink marble used in bathrooms contains iron oxide, while the blue color contains blue diopside. Brown marble is rare; it gets its color from limonite and iron carbonate. Multicolor artificial stone with a marble texture is used as decorative elements or for making countertops.

White color

White marble is rightfully considered the most valuable and refined. Moreover, the more natural the color, the more expensive the product made from it. It is called sculptural, which directly refers to the most popular method of its use at all times - for making sculptures.

White marble tiles

White marble tiles

Important! White marble is the purest, free of impurities, has a soft plastic structure without hard inclusions. Convenient to process. Gives the room a subtle luxury.

It is not recommended to cover work surfaces, walls and especially the floor with pure white marble. It is the most difficult to care for both because of its color and structure. It can be used to make sanitary ware, furniture and decorative items.

White marble effect tiles

Grey colour

The texture of marble in gray shades is rougher and more porous, since the original body of the stone contains a certain amount of hard additives. The darker the color, the more other species added. Impurities reduce the plasticity of gray marble, making it at the same time more interesting in design, variety of patterns and tones.

Gray marble in the bathroom

Advice. Gray marble can be used to cover walls and floors, combining it with snow-white plumbing fixtures, furniture and decorative inclusions.

Black color

Natural black marble is a volcanic rock, the color of which is given by the bitumen and graphite it contains in large quantities. Of course, this is the most valuable color resource that allows you to create magnificent interiors. Black marble can be used both for flooring and walls, work surfaces, furniture, decor - everywhere.

Black marble in the bathroom

By the way. Deposits of black marble with gold veins are especially valued. Their cost is even higher than pure white.

Multicolored

Many people believe that multi-colored marble is not natural, but artificial stone. But that's not true. It only contains varying amounts of different impurities, which provide high performance, durability and increased possibilities for use in design.

  1. What makes the stone green is the admixture of iron-containing silicates.
  2. Marble turns beige if it contains limonite.
  3. The pink tint, very popular for finishing bathrooms, is obtained when the stone contains iron oxide in small quantities.
  4. Blue marble of all tones - from blue to dark purple - is formed by the presence of blue diopside. There is a light blue material covered with a network of dark veins or vice versa.
  5. Brown marble is rare, but it looks very original. It is formed by limonite and iron carbonate, present in varying proportions in the rock.

Bathroom interior design with marble tiles

Marble tiles can be used to decorate any bathroom. It will fit especially well into the interiors of the following styles:

  • classical;
  • antique;
  • rococo;
  • baroque;
  • retro;
  • art deco;
  • minimalism;
  • eco.

You can use marble tiles entirely for floors and walls, or you can combine them with other types of tiles, wood, and natural stone. Look at the photos of modern interiors: marble has long gone beyond the strict classics and is actively used in a wide variety of design projects.

Retro

Here you need to choose what kind of retro style the interior will be made in - marble is not always suitable. It is relevant if you make a vintage bathroom, in the style of the 30s, for example. For the later period, the use of natural stone was not typical.

Marble tiles for bathroom

In retro interiors, white marble tiles are often placed on the floor, in a checkerboard pattern with black or gray. You can also lay out an apron near the bathtub, and put washable wallpaper on top.

Retro

Modern

Art Nouveau is characterized by restraint and brevity. Marble can be used to decorate a bathroom in this style, but it should be dim. Gray, white and light brown are best. There will be no unnecessary objects here, so the marble wall will become the semantic center and the main decoration of the room.

Art Deco

The shocking but elegant Art Deco style is designed to surprise, so you should not limit yourself to standard wall decoration - you can make an original podium or custom-made furniture. Smooth curves and curvilinear forms are welcome here, so marble with an ornate pattern will come in handy.

In addition to marble, you can also use onyx - it is considered one of the most beautiful stones that is actively used by furniture manufacturers and interior designers. It is loved for its rich color range, ability to transmit light and its incredible intricate patterns. From this material you can make art objects worthy not only of a bathroom, but also of contemporary art exhibitions.

Minimalism

A minimal amount of details, furniture, decor and colors are the main features of this style. But even with such restraint in everything, the interiors turn out to be rich and sophisticated. To achieve true minimalism, it is better to use natural-colored marble - white, gray, and black. Red, green, blue colors are not suitable for such interiors.

Eco style

Marble goes well with any shade of wood. It can be matched to the tone or, conversely, played in contrast. A decorative wall on which the beauty of marble is emphasized with the help of a “butterfly” layout - symmetrically polished slabs - will look great.

In addition, you can use stone in the design of a countertop or sink. This will create a feeling of unity with nature and allow you to have the opportunity to touch natural beauty every day.

Classical

White, gray or beige marble is suitable for such an interior. It is better to choose tiles with veins - this design is ideal for classics. The floor can be made plain light, or you can combine white tiles with black ones. This combination is always rich and interesting.

For a small bathroom, choose light glossy or semi-gloss tiles - they will make the room seem more spacious. Part of the wall will be decorated with a panel of figured tiles - its boundaries can be indicated by a golden frame. A white bathtub and copper or gold-plated sanitary ware will suit a classic interior. If space allows, you can install a stone countertop in a contrasting color for the sink - brown, black, dark green. Furniture for such an interior is selected from white, beige or cream-colored wood. It can be decorated with carvings or soft, simple patterns.

Types of marble bathroom tiles

Marble tiles for the bathroom come in the following types:

  • floor;
  • wall;
  • mosaic;
  • curly.

Each of them differs in color, design, size and performance characteristics. So, the floor one is much stronger than the wall one and can withstand heavy loads. Standard wall tiles are suitable for decorating large areas, and with the help of figured and mosaic tiles, individual zones in the room are distinguished.

Floor

It is ideal for the bathroom and other rooms with high humidity. The tiles are wear-resistant - their service life is at least 50 years. During this time it does not lose color. Such tiles are not afraid of mechanical damage, they are several times stronger than concrete, so they are difficult to split.

The coating is easy to clean, so bacteria do not accumulate on it. It is also not afraid of high temperatures and moisture. The tiles are made from clay, so they are a hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly product.

Wall-mounted

It has the same characteristics as the floor one, but is less durable. However, marble-effect tiles are often used to decorate walls. It is easy to clean and is not afraid of temperature changes, high humidity and aggressive detergents. This tile does not require frequent cleaning. It has low electrical conductivity, so static electricity does not accumulate on the surface, and dust, hair and fur do not stick.

Buyers are offered a huge range of marble wall tiles. It differs in size, color, texture. In stylish designer interiors, a combination of natural stone tiles of different shades is often found. Combinations can be the most unexpected, for example, snow-white marble is combined with gray or pink.

Mosaic

Marble mosaic will fit into the interior of the bathroom - it has remained a favorite for several seasons. Mosaics are small squares in the same color scheme that differ in shade.

It, like any tile, is not afraid of moisture, high temperature and mechanical stress. Mosaics are used to decorate uneven surfaces, corners, and countertops - this is very convenient, especially if the bathroom has a modest area. The interior will also be decorated with mosaic inserts on the wall. They can be chosen to match the tiles or in a contrasting color.

Curly

White marble in the bathroom looks beautiful, but sometimes it is boring. To give your interior some zest and character, you can use figured tiles. If regular tiles have right angles, then figured tiles have smooth, rounded edges.

This type of tile is more difficult to lay than regular tiles. When laying, a lot of waste remains, so initially you need to buy more of it. There is no need to lay the room from floor to ceiling with figured tiles. You can only decorate a small part of the wall above the bathtub or another noticeable area.

Interesting ideas for the interior

When using marble cladding, the ideal solution is to choose a classic style bathroom . In addition, it is permissible to use marble tiles not only on the wall surface, but also on the ceiling and floor surfaces. Decorative details look great on countertops under the washbasin and various shelves.

country style interior (even if it is an artificial analogue) will fit perfectly into the bathroom concept. Light shades of marble and wood-like veins will perfectly match the chosen style direction of the bathroom. Marble finishes are also appropriate in retro-style interiors. To do this, you should give preference to light and brownish shades and the color scheme inherent in mahogany.

What color

  1. It is well known that a light shade expands the walls of a room and makes it more spacious. Therefore, you should take a closer look at marble tiles in white and beige, blue and pink, light gray or light brown.
  2. With terracotta, orange, beige or pink cladding tones, you will get an interior that is warm and cozy. Blue, gray or green shades will create a cool and calm atmosphere.

    Both natural and artificial stone can have different shades

  3. An original bathroom design can be achieved if you decorate the walls, floor and ceiling with marble of the same light color and texture. This will smooth out the corners and saturate the room with additional air.
  4. You should not allow contrast in the design of the floor, walls and ceiling - this will visually make the space smaller. Corner accents in the bathroom should also be avoided.

Advice. If desired, you can use 3-5 tones of companion tiles that are not too contrasting with each other.
